Whilst working with a dyslexic Chemistry BSc Hon’s Student, studying at Cambridge University, the student explained that it practically was mandatory for Chemistry students to memorize the periodic table. This as I’m sure you are aware is a difficult task. If you are dyslexic however this can be extremely difficult, especially as the Periodic Table is not suited to people who have a strong visual preference. A dyslexic person that may have had problems learning the basics of the alphabet, reading for meaning and have a visual preference, could have extreme difficulties with learning and even memorizing the periodic table.

The periodic table follows a particular structure, that informs the reader about the chemical elements. To be honest, with you and more importantly the student, chemistry was and is not my strong point. So I searched the web for useful resources help students with the task of learning the periodic table and have found the following interactive and in most cases multi-sensory learning tools.

The Periodic Table of Videos

Periodic Vids

The first of these sites is a favourite as it combines the periodic table and the dare devil film and series Jack Ass, however less of the staples on nipples. This has been developed by the University of Nottingham and is constantly being updated with new video documented experiments to explain and help learn the table. the Videos have also been translated into Portuguese, Spanish and Indonesian.
